You don’t need any experience for this course, only a desire to learn! This is a two day enjoyable and fun filled course where you will learn basic boat handling skills, engine checks and safety.
This course gives you sufficient experience to safely handle small to medium sized cruisers. You will receive on the completion of your course a RYA Helmsman’s Certificate.

Itinerary

• Join the yacht, meet the crew and receive basic safety briefing.
• Boat preparation, pilotage, boat handling and seamanship.
• Engine manoeuvre, securing to a mooring buoy and navigation and engine maintenance.
• Sunday, leaving and coming alongside.
• Practise drills and being towed.
• Final sail and presentation of certificates.

The shore based element of the course will cover personal buoyancy, insurance, loading and how this effects handling and performance, balance and trim, crew members, awareness of other water users, application of the collision regulations, local bylaws, accepting a tow and rope work.

What to wear
Please bring a hat, sunscreen, lip balm and non-slippery footwear to wear on the boat at all times.
